Stepping with the Lord
God’s Calling for St. John’s
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Galatians 5:25
The Heart of the Matter
Our congregation is about to reach a milestone, 150 years of ministry. This in itself is a reason to pay tribute to God. In order to move forward, we need to discover where we are and where God wants us to go. As we recognize God’s plan for our church, He can give us, through prayer, the vision and direction. With that vision, we can mobilize others to pray and put together a plan of action.
This is just the beginning of the conversation that your Leadership Board will be having with you. Your participation is significant in this process.
Discovering the Way
Two things are necessary to start this process:
1. Time – structured, scheduled, consistent.
2. People – outfitted with the right attitude (humble and teachable), using the right source (God’s Word), and having the right response (unquestioning obedience).
Starting the Journey
It is vital for the members of St. John’s to hear and honor God’s voice throughout this process. Prayer is an essential discipline so we may hear His will. It makes us wait, clears our vision, quiets our hearts, and activates our faith. A prayer from Psalm 40: 5-10a:
Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned from us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare. Sacrifice and offering you did not desire but my ears you have pierced; burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. Then I said, ‘Here I am. I have come – it is written about me in the scroll. I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.’ I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, as you know, O Lord. I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and salvations. In Your Son’s Name, Amen.
